How my husband and I bought some new bathroom taps

Anyway, so there I was, sitting down in the living room and getting on nicely with my knitting, when Brian got up and said he was just going to the bathroom. “Won’t be long”, he said, “I’m just going to wash my hands”. He’s like that, my Brian. Ever so clean. Always taking care of himself. But then a few moments later he came back with something in his hand. “Blasted thing”, he said. “The tap’s broken”. And it was. Completely broken in half. Fortunately Brian hadn’t cut himself or done any other harm, but I thought it best not to say too much as he looked a little peeved. Anyway, the next day was a Saturday so we decided to look for a new set of bathroom tap. My suggestion was to drive over to the local DIY store. It’s a big place (not far from my sister’s house, actually), and we often go there to pick up bits and pieces for the house. But Brian had different ideas. You see, he wanted to do something that he described as online shopping. It’s all a bit technical for me, so I won’t try to say too much except to mention that he had stumbled across a shop called www.tapfactory.net which stocked all sorts of taps and bathroom fixtures. So we turned on the computer and visited the company’s website. And what a selection they had! I never realised there were so many different types of bathroom taps.

First, we spent a good deal of time looking at Victorian and Edwardian taps. These came under the category of traditional taps. I though they looked quite nice, but Brian and I are both fairly conservative so we decided that this range probably wouldn’t work for us. Then we had a look at a different category called designer bathroom taps. These too were quite impressive, but once again we agreed they were a little too adventurous for our liking. Next, we saw several designs that were categorised as minimalist taps, and at this point I am afraid to say that Brian and I had a bit of an argument. You see, while I though they would go nicely with all our other bathroom fixtures, Brian said that he considered them rather too modern. Finally, we moved on to another category which was called classic bathroom taps, and it was here that we found what we were looking for. Some of the designs were lovely, and to be totally honest we were a bit spoiled for choice. Eventually, though, Brian saw a set that was nearly identical to the one we were trying to replace and, without further ado, we agreed to go ahead and buy it. Things got even more technical at this point as Brian started talking about something called paypal and some other gibberish I couldn’t understand, so I just left it all to him. And guess what, a few days later our new taps arrived in the post and they were absolutely perfect!
